Condition: Very Good Manufacturer: Unknown
This beautiful engraving by Martin Schongauer is entitled "The Madonna, Standing With The Infant Christ In Her Arms" is wonderfully displayed in this 1816 lithograph. It is from William Young Ottley's book, An Inquiry into The Origin And Early History of Engraving Upon Copper and In Wood, with An Account of Engravers And Their Works, From The Invention of Chalcography By Maso Finiguerra, to the Time of Marc Antonio Raimondi. From the original engraving by Martin Schongauer. Print is on 19th Century, heavy white woven paper with some discoloration around the outer edges. There is a very light nickel sized stain just to the right of the imprint that does not detract from the beauty of this print. This print measures approx. 8" x 10 1/2" and is in very good condition. Matte sold seperately.
A note on the source: William Ottley compiled a small collection of engravings and published them in his book History of Engraving which was published in the early 19th century. The lithographed prints were of the highest quality and represent the works of some of the greatest artists of the past. Their attention to detail makes these originals some of the most sought after prints that will be the perfect compliment to your decor.
