The Lady Borow by Bartolozzi, 1796
This Stipple Engraving of Hans Holbien's The Lady Borow is wonderfully displayed in this 1796 lithograph. The soft color of the facial features is very impressive. Francesco Bartolozzi (1727-1815) produced this print for his "In His Majesty's Collection" series. It is printed upon a pink colored paper. The matted finished product is very pleasing. This print measures approx. 12 1/2" x 16 1/2" and is mounted to an 1/8" board that measures 14" x 18 1/2". This print is in Excellent condition. Below the picture it is marked From the Original Darwing By Hans Holbien, Engraved By F Bartolozzi R A Historical Engraver To His Majesty. Also, below the series title, it is marked Published as the Act Directs Feb 22, 1796 By I Chamberlaine. Matte sold separately.

A note on the source: Edwin Williams, an author, was born in Norwich, Connecticut on March 7, 1797; he died in New York city on October 21, 1854. His father, Joseph, was extensively engaged as a shipping and importing merchant, and was a general of Connecticut militia. The son removed to New York, was for many years secretary of the American institute, and actively connected with the historical, geographical, and statistical societies. He contributed constantly to periodicals, published "The New York Annual Register" in 1830-'45, and was the author of "The Politician's Manual"; "New Universal Gazetteer"; "Book of the Constitution"; "The Statesman's Manual" and many more.
